Blocked for 3 months after reviewing edit history. Thue | talk 17:56, 29 Oct 2004 (UTC)

User has returned from block early and vandalized list of biologists. Placing another 3 month block. UtherSRG 18:31, Dec 15, 2004 (UTC)

  • We see you have continued to vandalize Wikipedia. You have earned yourself a 3 months edit block. Enjoy your time off.

. Despite this IP being a proxy, there have been no valid edits in the past 3 weeks to warrant this IP not being blocked. - UtherSRG 17:39, Jan 5, 2005 (UTC)

Vandalized Mount Tambora. -- dcf 14:14, 2005 Mar 3 (UTC)

This IP continues to post nothing but vandalism. It looks like there was supposed to be a 3 month block imposed in december, but was not put in place. I have put a 1 month block on right now. --DropDeadGorgias (talk) 19:32, Mar 11, 2005 (UTC)

I received a mail from someone who claims they edit from this IP as a proxy and suspect that another user is vandalising from it. I will respond here. First of all, banning anonymous proxies that vandalise is encouraged by policy: Wikipedia:Blocking policy#Anonymous and open proxies. Secondly, I recommend you create your own account to avoid identity confusions like this. Thirdly, I don't see any valid contributions in this account's history, so I am not going to unblock it before the month is up without seeing evidence that this vandalism won't occur and that valid edits will occur. --DropDeadGorgias (talk) 20:30, Mar 14, 2005 (UTC)
I am reviewing this further. --DropDeadGorgias (talk) 20:52, Mar 14, 2005 (UTC)

I've attempted to use the school computers for Wikipedia to be thwarted by blocks several times, and have yet to have the chance to contribute from anywhere but my own home. I don't dispute the policy of blocking abused IP proxies; I just hope I manage to post something constructive while at the library after this latest block is lifted, before vandals ruin it again. (PS: Contributions from this IP address are only counted for users that aren't logged in, aren't they? Is there a feasible way to allow logged-in users to edit while blocking unregistered users at this IP address?) Phoenix-forgotten 22:28, 2005 Mar 14 (UTC)

I have unblocked this user. Since this is an IP address shared by many people, vandalism is inevitable. But we do have at least one legitimate user who also uses this IP address. If you do block this IP, please make your block no longer than necessary. Blocking for an entire month is too long. I would say a few hours should be the maximum, for sustained vandalism. Rhobite 08:45, Mar 17, 2005 (UTC)
  • I know of other users who are affected as well, having friends that use the system; this really discourages them (some are newbies to the whole concept) from using wikipedia and I tried to solve the situation by telling them to register an account, but it appears their accounts can't edit either?! Can't you just ban non-registered users (who we can't discern from) who use the IP, not registered users who might have legitimate contributions? Or do they have to request individual unblocks? -- Natalinasmpf 02:18, 11 Apr 2005 (UTC)
I agree with Natal; I think I suggested something like that too. And the Special:Contributions for this IP only records edits when not logged in, so why can't it be unblocked for those logged in, too? (The month-long ban, incidentally, was also just lifted today.) Phoenix-forgotten 22:08, 2005 Apr 11 (UTC)

This IP has been vandalizing again today (4/26). Are we to just let it go because more than one person uses this computer? How do we know that it's not just one person, simultaneously vandalizing and then playing to our sympathies? Atrivedi

You do realize it's a proxy, right. An entire library and school system is linked to the internet through it. It's doubtful someone would bother to create several registered users/sockpuppets using this IP in some elaborate manipulation game. It's just a bored juvenile killing time in the school library that's tainting all anonymous users here, and inconveniencing the registered ones with the blockings. Anyway, I personally try to check the Contributions page every once in a while and reverse the damage I see, since I use the same network. 169.244.70.148 18:31, 2 May 2005 (UTC)

Please stop messing with the VfD page and other pages. It's vandalism. Eric119 16:06, 13 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Blocking

No matter how much you ask, this IP is not going to stop vandalizing Wikipedia. My entire school uses this IP address, and I have no idea how many more people use it. There must be a group of people in the hundreds who use this IP address that continue to vandalize, and they don't care about it. I apologize for these people, but there is no need to continue to ask for these people to stop. --Bannus 19:58, 17 October 2005 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Blocking_policy_proposal would be perfect for this. --bd_ 22:28, 21 October 2005 (UTC)
