I would like to make a couple of things clear: My forefathers who emigrated to New Zealand from Wales arrived in the late 19th century AFTER the Maori Land Wars. Secondly, I find it interesting that while New Zealanders fought and died in Greece and Crete in 1941 trying to stem the Nazi invasion, there are hardly any memorials or acknowledgment of this part of history by Greece. Turkey, on the other hand overtly honors New Zealand and Australian war dead from the Gallipoli Campaign of World War One (well-kept military cemetaries, monuments to ther bravery, and the official naming of the landing beach ANZAC Cove). This is really amazing considering that Australia and New Zealand fought AGAINST Turkey.
