In many cases, it turns out to be the IP address of a proxy server that communicates between your browser and the Wikimedia servers. Such proxies are shared among a huge number of users compared to the number of persons using your particular machine. [edit] Stop vandalising user pages

Please stop vandalising or blanking user pages which do not belong to you. Hall Monitor 22:43, 17 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] explanation

Yes, I did read the explanation. However, the {{AOL}} template is not just a notification for admins, but for the other AOL users. If you read the entire thing, you would see that. The IP address does not belong to you, it belongs to AOL. The namespace is anonymous, and it belongs to Wikipedia. Administrators can delete anonymous userpages on a provisional basis, so in essense, Wikipedia controls that namespace, not the anonymous user. If you wish to have a userpage, please consider creating an account. Until that time, we will continue to label AOL pages as such for the protection of the user and Wikipedia. Thank you. «»Who?¿?meta 00:26, 18 October 2005 (UTC)
