School IP address Attention:

This host, wwwcache.gla.ac.uk, is registered to University of Glasgow and may be shared by multiple users of an educational institution. In the case of institutions using proxy servers, this IP address may in fact represent many users at many physical computers.

For this reason a message intended for one person may be received by another. Similarly an innocent user may get blocked for another user's vandalism. If you are editing from this address and are frustrated by irrelevant messages, you can avoid them by creating an account for yourself. In some cases you may temporarily be unable to create an account due to efforts to fight vandalism, in which case please read our advice on this situation.

Caution should be used when blocking this IP or reverting its contributions without checking - if a block is needed, administrators should consider a soft block with the template {{schoolblock|optional comment}} as the block reason.

Note: In the event of persistent vandalism, anonymous editing from this IP address may be disabled for up to 6 months at a time while abuse reports may be forwarded to your school administration for investigation in case of long-term abuse by registered users.

Thank you for experimenting with Wikipedia. Your test worked, and it has been reverted or removed. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Welcome to Wikipedia. We invite everyone to contribute constructively to our encyclopedia. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing. However, unconstructive edits are considered vandalism, and if you continue in this manner you may be blocked from editing without further warning. Please stop, and consider improving rather than damaging the work of others. Thank you. If this is an IP address, and it is shared by multiple users, ignore this warning if you did not make any unconstructive edits. Ryūlóng 07:52, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

In series of 3 edits you added "The Cuckoo's Nest" to the List of live action role-playing groups. I've removed the link to that website. If you'd like to link to their web site, the appropriate thing to do is to write up an article on The Cuckoo's Nest and put the link there. See Talk:List of live action role-playing groups for some suggestions. Alan De Smet | Talk 02:25, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

Please stop. If you continue to vandalize pages, as you did to David S. Mann, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Bubba hot ep 12:20, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

This is your last warning.
The next time you vandalize a page, as you did to October 6, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Bubba hot ep 12:36, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

You have been blocked from editing Wikipedia for repeated vandalism. If or when the block expires, feel free to come back, but please make useful contributions instead, and refrain from vandalising or this account will face longer blocks, and action could be taken against the individual who uses it. Gwernol 15:34, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

<<unblock|The IP address above is registered to the University of Glasgow. This means that you're are blocking legitimate usage of wikipedia from thousands of students and staff. Please remove this block and review future vandalism with the University's computing administrator (who will, depending on the severity of the vandalism, no doubt be able to help in ascertaining who the culprit is). A block time of one month is a punishment far too severe against a large number of people due to the actions of a very small minority. I am aware that this is block is only for anonymous editing, however, it is often a valuable option to be able to edit an article anonymously. For example, journal article reviews are, the vast majority of the time, submitted anonymously. This allows for reviewers to protect their identity and avoid the repercussions that signing a review could possibly bring. For the same reason, structured debate on scientific entries in wikipedia should be allowed to continue anonymously, without risking the reputation of the submitter.>>

I've reconsidered my position and have now unblocked this IP address. Please ask your university's network administrator to contact us at unblock-en-l regarding the tracking down of recent vandal(s) originating from this university or else should it resume, anonymous editing will be disabled once more. We cannot be expected to babysit every anonymous edit coming from your university. I should also point out that a Wikipedia account provides an editor with pseudonym that offers more anonymity than an IP address that is clearly registered with the university. --  Netsnipe  ►  13:00, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

  1. With regards to your comments on User talk:82.23.214.112: Please see Wikipedia's no personal attacks policy. Comment on content, not on contributors. Personal attacks damage the community and deter users. Note that continued personal attacks will lead to blocks for disruption. Please stay cool and keep this in mind while editing. If this is an IP address, and it is shared by multiple users, ignore this if it wasn't you who made the edit. AzaToth 21:25, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

Blocked. --Jeffrey O. Gustafson - Shazaam! - <*> 12:53, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

See above :

This blocked user (block log | autoblocks | unblock | contribs) asked to be unblocked, but an administrator or other user has reviewed and declined this request. Other administrators or users can also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy). This unblock request continues to be visible. Do not replace this message with another unblock request nor add another unblock request.

Request reason: "The IP address above is registered to the University of Glasgow. For the same reason, structured debate on scientific entries in wikipedia should be allowed to continue anonymously, without risking the reputation of the submitter."

Decline reason: "I agree with Jeffrey, the level of abuse coming from this IP is unacceptable. It is highly unlikely that the University computing admins will take action against this, so we must. Editing from a user account gives you more anonymity on Wikipedia since we don't know the IP of the user account and you have to reveal exactly no personal information to get an account. Use an account if you wish to edit. Gwernol 14:40, 9 March 2007 (UTC)"

This template should be removed when the block has expired, or after 2 days in the case of blocks of 1 week or longer.
The amount of abuse (in the form of vandalism and blatant personal attacks) coming from the IP far outweighs the good edits (which are almost limited to wikilinking). This is the sixth block of the IP. I would support a reduction in the block, but not a complete reversal of it. "Reviewing future vandalism with the University's computing administrator" is just not acceptable. We have a website to run and we will not be beholden to the actions or inactions of someone else to protect our content from vandalism and our users from personal attacks. And any potential editors can easily register an account with any name they wish that cannot be traced to their real identity, so part of your argument simply does not hold. G'day. --Jeffrey O. Gustafson - Shazaam! - <*> 13:42, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

You know, I would create an account in order to edit...but I can't due to your block. Your argument doesn't hold - in this case, the petty vandalism of the few is stopping the many. Yes, maybe the edits from here have not been groundbreaking and revelatory. But what you're doing is denying everyone here the chance to edit.

If you blocked every university network that had caused vandalism, Wikipedia would be a much smaller place.

First, I've enabled account creation for the IP, so knock yourself out. Second, if I blocked every university network that had caused vandalism, Wikipedia would have less vandalism. --Jeffrey O. Gustafson - Shazaam! - <*> 13:56, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
Okay, could you possibly use schoolblock then please?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Schoolblock

You don't want that. A schoolblock typically doesn't allow the creation of new accounts which would mean that unless you already had an account you couldn't edit at all. Be careful what you wish for. Gwernol 14:42, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanks; I was just looking for something that would fit, as not to annoy a fair number of students and a couple trolls. Oh well, back to the finally-register-me-an-account-based drawing board.
