[edit] This and that...

Hi! I see you've been making good, constructive edits at Wikipedia. Let me suggest that you consider creating an account, and/or get in the habit of using the "Edit summary" box when you do an edit. You don't need to put much there-- "copyedit", "sp", "grammar", "revert vandalism" (usually abbreviated as "rv vandalism")-- although you can write quite a lengthy explanation if you want to.

Here's why. As you've probably noticed, there's quite a bit of vandalism on Wikipedia. When folks go looking for vandalism to clean up, the most likely edits are those made by an anonymous editor (one without an account) and with no Edit summary filled in.

So please consider doing one or the other, or better still, both. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

One other thing. I notice that you sometimes do a number of small edits in a row on the same article. This makes for a crowded edit history, and makes users who want to look over your edits page back through a bunch of (generally) slow-loading pages. You can avoid this by using the Show Preview button more often, holding off on hitting Save Page 'til you're pretty sure you're done.

Happy editing! -- Mwanner | Talk 14:30, 2 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Summaries/account

Please consider doing as Mwanner suggests. The edit summary box is the small box below the main edit box. Simply cutting and pasting the content of your edit into the summary box suffices if it is short. Selecting the page history tab at the top of an article page will show you their usefulness and how other people have used edit summaries.

Also, perhaps you have resisted creating an account because you think it costs money or will generate spam. It is free and I've detected no spam. Also, in many ways it is more private because your IP address will no longer be displayed in the page history. Only your login name is displayed and your login name does not need to be your real name. If you have any questions, please edit my talk page.

Thank you for the good contributions. -Walter Siegmund (talk) 15:42, 11 November 2005 (UTC)
