From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hello and welcome to Wikipedia!
Here are some tips to help you get started:
- Create an account so that others will recognize you as you contribute.
- Once you are registered, add your name to the new user log to let others know a little about yourself.
- Read the article describing how to edit a page and feel free to experiment in the Sandbox.
- When editing pages, use the preview button before submitting and try to fill in the summary box for every edit.
- Eventually, read the Manual of Style and Policies and Guidelines.
- If you need help, post a question at the Newcomers' Help Desk or ask me on my talk page.
- Explore, be bold, in editing pages, and, most importantly, have fun!
Good luck!
Jrdioko
P.S. One last helpful hint. To sign your posts like I did above (on talk pages, for example) use the '~' symbol. To insert just your name, type ~~~ (3 tildes), or, to insert your name and timestamp, use ~~~~ (4 tildes).
Thanks for experimenting with the page Conscription on Wikipedia. Your test worked, and has been reverted or removed. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia. Thanks. --Nlu (talk) 05:59, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Oscillation (mathematics)
Your changes to this article were confusing, unclear, and imprecise. If you want to give it a try again, can you please make an account first? Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 15:37, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
Please do not add nonsense to Wikipedia. It is considered vandalism. If you would like to experiment, use the sandbox. Thank you. --Wetman 17:50, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Please Use Edit Summaries
When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:
The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.
Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field, especially for big edits or when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you. Meno25 03:30, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
Please stop. If you continue to vandalize pages, as you did to Odysseus, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. A link to the edit I have reverted can be found here: link. If you believe this edit should not have been reverted, please contact me. Scienceman123 talk 02:02, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for experimenting with the page University of Rochester on Wikipedia. Your test worked, and it has been reverted or removed. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you may want to do. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia. If this is an IP address, and it is shared by multiple users, ignore this warning if you did not make any unconstructive edits. John254 23:54, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] University of Rochester
This is your last warning.
The next time you vandalize a page, as you did to University of Rochester, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. --JFreeman (talk) 23:54, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Your message on User talk:JFreeman
You wrote on my talk page:
-
- Please don't ban this IP address... it is used by multiple students at the University of Rochester and what one user does does not reflect what other users do.
Blocking edits is an important way to try to keep the nonsense and vandalism to a minimum on Wikipedia. If there are enough problem edits from a user, or from an IP address, that user or IP address will be blocked from editing for some amount of time. If the problem is severe enough over time, the user or IP address can be blocked indefinitely from making further edits to Wikipedia. Please note that this does not affect a user's ability to view Wikipedia pages.
Even if an IP address is blocked, a user can still use the system at that IP address to edit Wikipedia. All they have to do is create a user ID of their own and sign in. Then their actions are kept completely separate from the "anonymous" users' shared IP address.
If you have any questions, please feel free to note them on my talk page. Thanks!

[edit] February 2007
The recent edit you made to Insurance bond constitutes vandalism, and has been reverted. If you are interested in contributing to the project, see the Introduction. However, please do not continue to vandalize, as you will be blocked from editing. Thanks – Qxz 04:49, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
This is the discussion page for an anonymous user, identified by the user's numerical IP address. Some IP addresses change periodically, and may be shared by several users. If you are an anonymous user, you may create an account or log in to avoid future confusion with other anonymous users. Registering also hides your IP address.
