I changed the definition of pedophilia because the phrase "want to have sex with children" is not always true nor a neutral point of view. - Foamhead

It's quite interesting how most of the definitions here elude to love rather than sexual attraction. It seems like the "most controversial" of the -philias, like paedophilia, are labelled as sexual attraction rather than love attraction, despite what an actual dictionary definition may say. 10:58, 18 Apr 2004 (UTC)

I'm a bit miffed that there is nothing about Empedoclean concepts of philia here, or over at Love. --Trithemius 12:42, May 22, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Wikiphilia

Hmm, Wikiphilia. Maybe we should add it to the Wiktionary, along with Wikisourceror, Wikipedian, Wikimedian, Wiktionarian, and Wikify. (What do the Wikibooks people call themselves?) --Ardonik 08:40, Aug 10, 2004 (UTC)

You're right, Wikiphilia should go. I'm removing it. --DropDeadGorgias (talk) 14:57, Nov 11, 2004 (UTC)
it's still there. i cleaned the article up slightly, but i was unsure whether or not to remove wikiphilia. who decides what a "proper" -philia is? anyway, as to the nature of the clean-up, this article is about the suffix -philia, so i don't see why philosophy and philatelism (not to mention philadelphia) has to be on the list. if someone wants the article to be about the affix "philia", then it needs to be renamed and partially rewritten. <> supine 01:55, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Wiktionary?

IMO 99% doesn't go beyond dicdef. I suggest to keep only items with wikiarticles, the rest must go to wiktionary. Not to say that this article became a playground for SillyDefinitionPhilia (sorry, I don't know how to say this in Greek). Mikkalai 21:45, 30 Nov 2004 (UTC)

I'm not sure that it really matters much, that there is a -philia for practically anything. Dacryphilia for example, redirected here, which serves as a place-marker for an article should one be written that is more than a dictionary definition. That does not make this a dictionary, but a list of -philia and a concise definition, linking to articles where appropriate. I see nothing improper or non-WP about that. — Mark (Mkmcconn) ** 16:36, 14 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] -philias in Paraphilia

Should the -philias listed in paraphilia that actually have articles be included here? PeepP 22:24, July 16, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Phillia - Love between friends

As phillia is word for love between friends, surely it is wrong to use the phile extension for words of a sexual nature. Eros from which we have the English word erotic for sexual love and/or lust should form the basis for an exstension to words such as pedophile, which in my opinion should be peda-erot. As the phile extensesion refers to friendship love, then all people who love children in a friendship sense are really pedophiles and those who love of children are sexually based are pedo-erots. I am a logophile or word lover. I have heaps of dictionaries and I am the author of 'The Mewburn Nautical Dictionary.' G.Mewburn

Sorry G.Mewburn, as a word lover you sure don't know how to spell. It is "paedophiles" "extension" for the few I pointed out for you. Maybe you should use your dictionaries more often? The -phile suffic is not an incorrect use as it means love. Some argue love for a friend is not different to that of your wife or creator; you just express love to them differently.

Um… pedophilia. I’ve actually never seen the spelling you used.
Incidentally, what kind of logophile has “heaps” of dictionaries? —Frungi 01:30, 14 January 2006 (UTC)
It is non-American English spelling. Sarah Ewart (Talk) 05:26, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] opposite sex

"haemophilia: Sexual attraction involving blood (either on a sex partner or attractive member of the opposite sex or the liquid itself)"

Isn't describing a person one is meant to be attracted to as a "member of the opposite sex" a bit outdated?

haemophilia is a blood disorder...Sarah Ewart (Talk) 05:26, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Pedophile

Why isn't pedophile and pedophilia listed here? Aaрон Кинни (t) 05:07, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Interesting List of Hobbies

I'm curious ... did the person who put necrophilia under the "Hobbies" heading have any inking as to what it was? No offence to whoever it was, but its just so goddamn funny :p

[edit] Sexology removed

Despite being described as a "major area of usage" in the introduction, someone has removed the extensive sexology category, replacing it with a paraphilia link in "Other". I see this former section as having value and worth inclusion in the article - especially since most are blue links. Can anyone justify its deletion? Hoof Hearted 21:06, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
