User talk:卫weizhe哲
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I took the liberty of putting you in the Duke University Wikipedians category. Since an informal community had already developed around the Duke page, I thought I might as well formalize it. Cheers, JTM.

[edit] your username
Hi, I don't know if you noticed or not, but your username, 卫weizhe哲, is pretty difficult for non-speakers of Chinese to understand, refer to, or quote. Not everyone can type Chinese, not everyone will be willing to copy-paste, and if they are, they might not even be able to display the 卫哲 characters, so they have no clue what your username really is and can't even create a link to your user or talk page. It's mighty inconvenient for all parties involved, so I suggest you change your username to something easier for the layman to comprehend, such as Weizhe. If you want you can create a custom signature like [[User:Weizhe]]([[User_talk:Weizhe|卫哲]]), which will come out as Weizhe(卫哲). You can contact an admin to change your username, I think. Thanks. -Hmib 04:12, 31 July 2005 (UTC)
- Uh... it's in the best interest of wikipedia for all wikipedians to be 狗拿耗子多管闲事. This would not only be inconvenient if you do something bad, it'd be equally inconvenient if you do something good and someone decides to award you a barnstar or link your page to a hall of fame or something, but can't find/access/type your username. That'd be a mess. BTW if you know how to use "狗拿耗子多管闲事" I think your Chinese level should be at least 2... unless that's the only one you know. LOL. -Hmib 10:23, 31 July 2005 (UTC)

- OK nice article, the Duke one. You did make a few mistakes here and there but nothing serious, mainly punctuation. I suppose it's your call to use your current username, though you have been warned. ;) -Hmib 07:46, 1 August 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Name change
Hi. Your request for a name change was rejected. I've pasted the response here. If you ahve any questions please leave them on my talk page. Thanks. Secretlondon 21:22, 8 August 2005 (UTC)
- I have been told by another user that my username, 卫weizhe哲 could be problematic because of the Chinese characters, so I am requesting a name change to simply "WeiZhe". Also, is it possible to merge User:Gregw824 with this new profile? I wasn't smart and created a new profile. Thanks. 卫weizhe哲 12:17, 1 August 2005 (UTC)
-
- This is me to prove I am also User:Gregw824. If the two can't be merged, no problem, thanks. Gregw824 12:31, 1 August 2005 (UTC)
- We can only move your account to a name that has never been used. I presume you still want your edits moved from
- This is me to prove I am also User:Gregw824. If the two can't be merged, no problem, thanks. Gregw824 12:31, 1 August 2005 (UTC)
卫weizhe哲 to WeiZhe - I will attempt this but it may fail because of the chinese characters. Secretlondon 21:05, 8 August 2005 (UTC)

- In fact I won't because you have 13 edits on 卫weizhe哲 and many more on Gregw824. The greg account also predates the 卫weizhe哲 one by about 9 months. Secretlondon 21:18, 8 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Ancient Rome Vote
A while ago you voted for Ancient Rome to get worked on by the Article improvement drive. Well, the article has been nominated by me again. If possible can you go vote for it at the improvement drive?--ZeWrestler Talk 14:50, 14 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Duke template
The matter at hand is not whether or not other templates do the same thing, but instead that (emphasis added):
- "Fair use images should only be used in the article namespace. Used outside article space, they are often enough not covered under the fair use doctrine. They should never be used on templates (including stub templates and navigation boxes) or on user pages. They should be linked, not inlined, from talk pages when they are the topic of discussion. This is because it is the policy of the Wikimedia Foundation to allow an unfree image only if no free alternative exists and only if it significantly improves the article it is included on. All other uses, even if legal under the fair use clauses of copyright law, should be avoided to keep the use of unfree images to a minimum."
Any other templates that you found using fair use images are wrong and should have said images removed. Please review this policy at this page, and reconsider your position. — Scm83x hook 'em 02:23, 9 April 2006 (UTC)
- Great fix! I had never even noticed the one at The University of Texas template! I'm glad that you now understand the fair use rules and have decided to comply. Great working with you! — Scm83x hook 'em 02:31, 9 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Roosevelt
Why have you termed my change to the Theodore Roosevelt page vandalism? His nickname as a small child was "Teedie," not "Teddie" (or, as an adult, "Teddy"). Look it up. "Teddie" is incorrect. Azaner 23:44, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
Your username has been blocked indefinitely because it may be rude or inflammatory, unnecessarily long/confusing, too similar to an existing user, contains the name of an organization, website or non-Latin characters, or is otherwise inappropriate (see our blocking and username policies for more information). You are encouraged to create a new account and contribute to Wikipedia under a more appropriate username, and in a constructive manner. Wikipedia:Username provides guidance on selecting an appropriate username. You may also edit Wikipedia without creating an account. You are not allowed to edit Wikipedia under an inappropriate username. If you would like to discuss the block, you may edit your talk page or email the administrator who blocked you.
Due to Wikipedia's mechanism for enforcing name changes, your IP address may be temporarily blocked. Unless you have also been engaging in vandalism or impersonation of another user, we will remove that block as soon as possible — if this doesn't happen within an hour or so, please email an administrator and explain the situation (see the list of administrators).
If you want to keep the contributions from your old account for your new username, please follow these directions: (1) Add {{unblock-un|new username}} to your user talk page. This is possible because even when you are blocked, you can still edit your own talk page. (2) Soon, an admin may come to unblock you. (3) You will have 24 hours after the unblock to file a request on Wikipedia:Changing username before you may be re-blocked. Note that this can only be done before you create the new one. For more information, please visit Wikipedia:Changing username. In many cases (especially if your account has few or no edits), it is a lot easier to create a new account.

[edit] Image:Judywoodruff.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Judywoodruff.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add
{{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Localzuk(talk) 02:20, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
