Ţepeş (IPA /ˈtsepeʃ/) is the surname given to Vlad III Dracula. The name means "impaler" in Romanian, according to some sources. Dracula impaled thousands of Turkish muslims, to forestall the invasion of the Ottoman empire into Romania; and conducted other impalings as law enforcement techniques or for his personal reasons. Others connect the name Dracula with "Dragon," referring to the medieval Order of the Dragon to which Vlad III Tepes' father, and later Vlad III Tepes, also belonged. Tepes may refer to:
