Ştefan Popa

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Stefan Lucian Popa is the first Romanian composer to release a jazz bass solo conceptual album in Romania.[citation needed] The style, although juvenile, is revolutionary and was named "Deep Melodic Jazz" (the author's definition). Born in Bistrita (county of Bistrita-Nasaud, Romania) he started playing classical guitar at the local "Scoala Populara de Arte" (tr.: The People's Art School) at the age of 14. He spent his first years as a growing musician playing electrical bass guitar in a local band (Manifest) which he founded with his colleague and friend Mihai Coros. At the age of 18 he was the co-founder of “The Twisted Cables Concept”. Again, together with Mihai Coros, the two played lounge, chill-out, fusion and jazz in clubs across the city of Cluj Napoca, Romania. Now, aged 21, Stefan Lucian Popa released his first record, Coram Deo Vol. 1.
