Şerif Gören

Şerif Gören is a Turkish film director. Aside from important films under his own signature, he is also the winner of Palme d'Or ("Golden Palm") award in Cannes Film Festival in 1982 with the film "Yol", that he had directed on behalf of Yılmaz Güney, who at the time was serving time in jail for the murder of Yumurtalık judge Safa Mutlu. Şerif Gören was born in 1944 in Xanthi, in Greece. He started his film career as an editor, and then continued as an assisting director. He directed his first film "Endişe" (The Anxiety) in 1974. He directed more than thirty films in a decade. The film "Yol" he directed on behalf of Yılmaz Güney won a Palme d'Or ("Golden Palm") in Cannes Film Festival in 1982 (he shared the prize with Costa Gavras for his film "Missing").
