Łan (Lan ; pronounced one; in Latin laneus, in German Lahn), in Polish means "field," and is a unit of land measurement used in Poland. Since the 13th century, its value has varied from area to area. A Franconian Łan consisted of 43.2 morgs = 23 to 28 hectares. The term Łan was also used to indicate a full-sized farm, as opposed to one split up into a number of smaller sections. In medieval times its value was from 3 to 50 hectares, but, since 13th to 1857 in Great Lesser Poland (with Podkarpacie), the Franconian Łan was used.
