From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Đurađ I was the Ruler of the Zeta from 1362 - January 13, 1378, and a member of the House of Balšić, which ruled Zeta from 1356 to 1435. He was the oldest out of 3 sons of Balša I. His wife, Olivera, was a daughter of King Vukašin Mrnjavčević.
[edit] Ruling Zeta
In AD 1362, he came to power in Zeta after his father, Balša I, passed down the rule of Zeta to him. During his rule, Zeta's economy became better. He allied with Prince Lazar Hrebeljanović of Serbia, Ban Tvrtko I of Bosnia and King Ludovik I of Hungary to defeat Nikola Altomanović of Herzegovina in 1373, who later found refuge with Đurađ I until his death. Đurađ I conquered the towns of Trebinje, Konavle, and Dračevica in Herzegovina after the defeat of Nikola Altomanović in 1373.

Đurađ I died on January 13, 1378. The rule of Zeta was passed down to his younger brother, Balša II, who ruled Zeta from January 13, 1378 - September 18, 1385.
