Čierna nad Tisou is a town and municipality in the Trebišov District in the Košice Region of extreme south-eastern Slovakia, near the Tisa river.

The town and municipality is one of the newest in the Košice Region established in 1828.

The town lies at an altitude of 102 metres and covers an area of 9.37 km². It has a population of about 4390 people.

The town is about 60% Magyar, 34% Slovak and 6% Gypsy.

[edit] Economy and facilities

The town has a pharmacy, and outpatient health facilities of a general practioner and children and adolescents. The town has a public library and gymnasium. The town also has a post office and a number of general and food stores.

The town has an important railway border crossing to Ukraine, important because Slovakia and Ukraine have different gauges and therefore all traffic must change gauge.
