École élémentaire La Source

École élémentaire La Source in Barrie, Ontario, was built for the Conseil scolaire de district du Centre-Sud-Ouest, a French only separate public school board in the Province of Ontario, Canada.

The school began operations in November 1999. It was the final building project of Canadian artist and architect Ernest Annau, who died within six months of the school being finished.

During construction, the old school had to be vacated before the new school was finished. As a result, the faculty and students of École La Source were in temporary school facilities borrowed from Camp Borden (a military encampment). This required considerable acceleration work on the school building project costing some $300,000 extra above its $5 million original public tender price. The extra funding was obtained from the Minister of Education under the Conservative government of Earnie Eves.

Another tragedy associated with building this school was the sudden death of a member of the Board of Trustees of Conseil scolaire de district du Centre-Sud-Ouest soon after the school was built.
