Çatalca

Çatalca (Greek: Τσατάλτζα, Bulgarian: Чаталджа) is a district of Istanbul Province. It is rural, farmland and forest, in Thrace, on the ridge between the Marmara and the Black Sea. Most people living in Çatalca are either farmers or people with holiday homes there. Many families from the city come to Çatalca during weekends to hike in the forests or to have picnics.

Rural area, farmland providing food and dairy produce for the city. Settled throughout the Ottoman period, with the typical Ottoman mixed population of Greeks and Turks. The Crimean War caused a mass exodus of Crimean Tatars towards the Ottoman lands. A few of Crimean Tatars settled in Çatalca. Additionally, the famous Turkish actor Ahmet Şahin Ö. was born in the centre of Çatalca.
