Talk:Ålesund

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hi! I mistakenly edited two words in this article, but decided to change it back to what is was. However, the phrasing "off of Aalsund" is unfortunate, since it technically means that the place/site has got nothing to do with Aalsund... Not being a native speaker of your beautiful language, I opted on leaving the author to do the editing instead.

[edit] Merge recommendation

  • Oppose — Close to neutral opinion, but think that material under Ålesund Fire could be fully integrated into Ålesund article, perhaps best under a separate history section (i.e., we might consider restructuring the article a little) or if someone wants to beef up the details on the Ålesund Fire article so that it contains a detailed discussion, I'd willingly support it remaining separate. As an experiment, I've started to beef up the Ålesund Fire article. After doing so, I revised my abivalent merge recommendation. Williamborg 14:05, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
  • Oppose — the Ålesund Fire is a historical event which goes in categories like 1904 disasters etc. In this category we find 1904 Toronto fire, so why shouldn't the Ålesund fire be a separate article? I do however suggest a rename along the lines of 1904 Ålesund fire or Ålesund fire of 1904. Punkmorten 13:06, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
  • Oppose - Leave a pointer on the page to the Fire. We natives would like for the reader to be able to quickly scan the page and explore points of interest, not drown them in information that some might find irrelevant. However, the fire is very relevant regarding the Art Nouveau buildings. No fire, no Art Nouveau town of Ålesund. LB, June 17th 2006
  • Retract - The Ålesund Fire article has been much improved from the single paragraph that it was at the time I recommended the merge. Caerwine Caerwhine 18:27, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

An appropriate outcome—improved articles! Thanks: Williamborg 20:53, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
