(Hydroxyethyl)methacrylate

Hydroxyethylmethacrylate or HEMA is the monemer that is used to make the polymer PolyHydroxyethylmethacrylate). When the polymer is subjected to wather it will swell. Depending on the pfysikal og chemical structure of the polymer, the polymer is capable of take up between 10 to 600% water relative to the dry whight. Because of it's hydrophilic properties, it was one of the first materials to be successfully used in the manufacture of flexible contact lenses[1]
