TV.com summary

Zoey 101 is an American live-action situation comedy television show for children and teenagers that debuted on January 9, 2005. It stars Jamie Lynn Spears as the title character, who is one of the first girls to attend a previously all boy boarding school called Pacific Coast Academy (PCA). Her younger brother, Dustin (Paul Butcher), also attends PCA.

In the first season, Zoey Brooks (Jamie Lynn Spears) has two roommates that are complete opposites: Dana Cruz (Kristin Herrera) is tough and some what conceited; Nicole Bristow (Alexa Nikolas) is boy-crazy and ditzy. Zoey is left to play peacemaker between them. One of her best friends is Chase Matthews (Sean Flynn-Amir), who secretly has a crush on Zoey but is too shy to act on it. His roommate and good friend is Michael Barrett (Christopher Massey) who likes to play basketball and is very energetic and outgoing. Another character, roommate to Chase and Michael, is Logan Reese (Matthew Underwood): overconfident, rich, self-absorbed, and girl-crazy. Quinn Pensky (Erin Sanders) is a science geek and a good friend.

As of October 2006, the show, which debuted in January 2005, is in its third season and among the 3 most-watched programs in the United States among kids between the age of 9 & 14.[citation needed]

[edit] Main characters

Zoey is an athletic and confident teenage girl who (in Season One) starts the eighth grade at Pacific Coast Academy ("Home of the Stingrays") as one of its first-ever female students, though many will follow afterwards. Creative and full of ideas, Zoey has used her keen fashion sense to design clothes and backpacks; unfortunately, she also has a tendency to misplace her room-key. She's always ready to help a friend in need, particularly her younger brother (and fellow PCA student) Dustin, whom Zoey mothers even though he's mature far beyond his years. Her very first friend at PCA, and "the best guy friend [she's] ever had," was Chase Matthews, who showed her around campus on her first day, and who has developed feelings for her. She often gets into fights with Logan Reese. Her roommates in Season One are Dana Cruz and Nicole Bristow. Lola Martinez became their roommate after Dana left. After having a fight with Dana and Nicole, Zoey moved in with Quinn Pensky for a while. In Season 3, Nicole moves to a different school, thus Quinn Pensky became their new roommate. Another friend of hers is Michael Barrett, who is Chase's best friend. Zoey’s mind works much faster than her fellow students’ (with the possible exception of Dustin’s), which is why she’s almost constantly solving problems, both theirs and her own. She's down-to-earth, and never hesitates to stand up for her beliefs. She has enough spunk and charm to win over just about anyone and everyone she meets. She is currently the only girl on the PCA Basketball team, as a result of Dana’s transfer, and was the first girl at PCA to ever be nominated for Class President (though she would drop out of the race).
Chase is the loveable boy next door-type: considerate, thoughtful, funny, and always there for his pals. He's Zoey Brooks' first and best guy-pal at PCA. Unbeknownst to her, he also has strong feelings for her. His best friend is Michael Barrett, who has been his roommate since Zoey began school at PCA. His other roommate is Logan Reese, who despite being a jerk, is actually a good friend of Chase. Chase and his roommates are all on the basketball team, and he and Michael co-host "The Chase and Michael Show." Chase is also good friends with Lola Martinez, Quinn Pensky, Nicole Bristow, and Dana Cruz (likely their best guy friend) and like a big brother to Dustin Brooks (who is, aptly, Zoey's little brother). Chase was also once nominated for Class President alongside Zoey and Mark Del Figgalo. Though Mark would go on to win after the two dropped out of the race, he and Zoey maintained a rough split of 98% of the class vote. The voting shows that Chase is a well-respected and popular guy; Zoey's male counterpart. As time had passed in the second season, Chase had come closer and closer to revealing his feelings to Zoey, but it didn't happen. In the first episode of Season 3, Chase comes back to P.C.A with a girlfriend named Rebecca. Though he breaks up with her in the episode after, the notion that Zoey and Chase will ever date remains up in the air.
Lola is an aspiring actress, who one day hopes to make it big in Hollywood. In season 2, she was Zoey Brooks and Nicole Bristow's new roommate at PCA. In Season 3, She is Zoey's and Quinn Pensky's roommate. Lola is smart, spunky and can fit in with any crowd. Lola is very dedicated to her dream of becoming a big-time movie star; she's confident that she'll win an Oscar before her 19th birthday. According to her everyone thinks that Chase is in love with Zoey
Michael is Chase Matthews' best friend. He is roommates with Logan Reese and Chase, who often drag him into their bizarre schemes. Michael is the most athletic of the trio, and was briefly addicted to potato chips. He, like Logan, wishes that Chase would confess his love of Zoey Brooks to her; Michael is constantly urging Chase to tell Zoey about his aforementioned feelings.
This junior mad-scientist is not like other girls, to say the least. Born and raised in Seattle, she doesn't care for "hanging out." Instead, Quinn spends most of her time in her room at PCA, which doubles as a science-lab. Her extracurricular activities include developing various contraptions, all known as "Quinn-ventions", which she then tests out on unsuspecting fellow students. Quinn often employs Dustin Brooks as a guinea pig for her experiments; Dustin's older sister Zoey almost never takes kindly to this. In Season Two, Quinn comes across as more of a friend than a scientist. In Season Three, Quinn bunks with Lola Martinez and Zoey, due to a room-assignment mix-up. Quinn also has an alpaca named Odius who lives back with her Mom and Dad in Seattle.
  • Quinn-ventions Of Note
    • "Banapples" (mutant fruit; specifically, an apple cross-bred with a banana)
    • Cloned boyfriends
    • Coconut perfume which doubles as a powerful sedative
    • An energy drink that causes manic activity, followed by deep slumber
    • A lie-detector test that was 98% accurate
    • A remote-control robot which fires a real laser-disruptor
    • Moonbars (candy) injected with cactus goo for flavor
    • A sonic disruption device that knocks anyone within earshot unconscious
    • A silent leafblower
The most sophisticated and athletic guy at PCA, or so he rates himself. Logan assumes that girls will like him, because of his good looks; it's just his attitude that needs work. He's less than wild about the opposite gender taking up space on campus, especially as part of PCA's sports teams. Logan is considered the "anti-hero" in comparison to Zoey Brooks. Despite being as obnoxious as he is handsome, Logan is the best friend of his roommates Michael Barrett and Chase Matthews. He once mentored Dustin Brooks on how to be a ladies' man, only to watch the younger boy succeed where Logan himself failed. Logan is quite proud of his dad being a TV/film-producer whose fame, very likely, owes more than a bit to Logan's constant bragging about the fact. He is also known as one of the biggest 'Girl Magnet Jerks'. He always teases Chase about crushing on Zoey Brooks; however, at the same time, he urges Chase to let her know about said crush. In a newer episode, we learn that Logan is, surprisingly, an A+ student in chemistry. He kept it a secret because he thought he would be considered a "science nerd".
He's the sort of "perfect" little brother whom most teenage girls fantasize about having as their own. The exception is Zoey, who doesn't need to fantasize because she is Dustin's big sister. Besides being his fiercest protector and closest confidante, Zoey has more recently become Dustin's classmate at the newly-coed PCA. A child prodigy, Dustin enjoys sharing an 8th grade algebra class with his equally-savvy elder sister. He also enjoys helping uber-misfit Quinn Pensky with her wacky scientific experiments...that is, when he's not busy talking his way in and out of assorted sticky situations. Whenever Dustin gets in over his head, Zoey is always the first one to rush to her younger brother's defense. Although her playing bodyguard gets on Dustin's nerves from time to time, he loves Zoey too much to hold that against her. By Season 3, Dustin is usually seen hanging out with friends closer to his own age.
Nicole is Zoey Brooks' best friend. She is from Kansas, where her father owns a juice company. Her personal motto is "Better late than sweaty." Nicole is the definite "girly-girl" of the gang: she talks a mile a minute and is rarely without a blow dryer in hand. She's a bundle of energy and extremely peppy, yet at the same time very loyal and trustworthy. In Season Two, she actually started failing one of her classes due to staring at the cute boys all around her. She was always fighting with her Season 1 roommate, Dana Cruz; however, Nicole got along well with her Season 2 roommate, Lola Martinez. Nicole doesn't return to PCA in Season 3, due to being diagnosed with "OMGD" (Obsessive Male Gender Disorder) -- a disorder that makes a girl "absolutely boy-crazy." She is sent to an all-girls' school for a while.
As Zoey Brooks' messy roommate in Season One, Dana's an amazing athlete and also, sad to say, a total slob with a bad attitude. She is great at basketball, loves to sleep, hates to wake up, and suffers from the occasional nightmare about death by blow dryer (Nicole and her hair). Dana considers mankind's greatest invention to be the snooze button on her alarm clock. She picks on Nicole Bristow all the time for being annoying. Dana can't stand Logan Reese for anything, although the two of them are more alike than either imagines. In Season Two, Dana volunteered for a European exchange program and is currently studying in Paris.

[edit] Recurring characters

Mark Del Figgalo (played by Jack Salvatore Jr.)

Quinn's love interest does not seem to be very smart but does seem to care about her. He was not very fond of her in the first episode he appears in where Zoey sets him up on a date with Quinn without him even realizing. He can be seen with Quinn dragging him around doing the most odd things. He was elected Class President in Season Two (all other candidates--Zoey and Chase--had dropped out). He's also very fond of salami, and is seen numerous times with a stick of salami in hand. He often calls Quinn "Clint". Mark often has bad luck and is always getting into sticky situations.

Dean Rivers (played by Christopher Murray)

Dean Rivers runs the school at PCA. At times he is very serious but is also very friendly at times. In season 3, Dean Rivers has to have his nose reconstructed and is replaced by Dean Taylor.

Kazu (played by Brian Tee)

Kazu runs the very popular Sushi Rox, which is a Sushi store that is available to anyone who attends PCA. So far Kazu has made three appearances in Zoey 101.

Coco (played by Jessica Chaffin)

Coco is Zoey's dorm advisor (DA). Usually PCA students would get a new DA each year but Zoey keeps getting Coco. She usually is seen eating, drinking or talking about her bra. Coco usually makes an appearance in the first episode of every season. Could be seen as rude as she barges into dorm rooms all the time and is often taking other people's drinks without asking. Seems to be getting a bigger role in Season 3, having an episode about her.

Jeremiah Trottman (played by Creagen Dow)

Jerimiah is the on-field news correspondent at PCA. He usually the one reporting the big news happening at the school.

Mr. Bender (played by Michael Blieden)

Mr. Bender is one of Zoey's teachers at PCA. Zoey and Chase both think he is a cool teacher.

Coach Keller

Coach Keller is the gym teacher at PCA. Everyone seems to dislike him for his bossy attitude. He might be a teacher but he doesn't seem like he's passed Kindergarten because he can never read. He enjoys eating sushi, which he pronounces SUH-SHEE.

Nurse Krutcher (played by Diane Delano)

Nurse Krutcher is one of the most unliked people at PCA. While she is supposed to make kids feel better she only makes them feel worse and the kids usually try to escape from her.

Vicky (2005) (played by Miki Ishikawa)

Vicky is a student at PCA. She likes to hang out on the weekends.
