Zinj is also home of several foreign embassies including the Embassy of the United States of America, the largest Embassy compound in Bahrain, and the Russian embassy. Mainly due to regional tension towards the United States and large violent demonstrations at 2003 held near the embassy, where a Bahraini citizen was killed by riot police, several roads in Zinj remain barricade with concrete blocks and special security forces are frequently seen circling the area at night.
