The Northern Eagles were formed in 1997, and were renamed Zillmere Eagles in 2005.

In recent years, the club has produced such AFL players as: Cheynee Stiller, Josh Drummond, Jamie Charman, Robert Copeland and Danny Dickfos. Of the current playing group, Ben Warren and Daniel Dzufer appear to be future AFL stars.
