From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Chang Dai-chien (Simplified Chinese: 张大千; Traditional Chinese: 張大千; Pinyin: Zhāng Dàqiān; Wade-Giles: Chang Ta-Chien; 1899-1983) was one of the best-known Chinese artists of the twentieth century. He is also regarded by many art experts as one of the most gifted master forgers of the twentieth century. Born originally in mainland China, he emigrated with the Nationalists to Taiwan and eventually would settle in Brazil. A damming project in the 60s forced him to move again, this time to Carmel. A meeting between Chang and Picasso in 1956 was viewed as the meeting between the masters of Eastern and Western art.
