Zero set

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In mathematics, zero set is a subset of a topological space that is equal to f -1(0), where f is a continuous function.

[edit] Definition

Let X be a topological space, and let A be a subset of X. If there exists a continuous function

f:X\longrightarrow \mathbb{R}

such that A = f − 1(0), then A is said to be a zero set.
