Zeil am Main is a town in the Haßberge district in Lower Franconia, an area in the German federal state of Bavaria, Germany. It is situated on the right bank of the Main, 7 km east of Haßfurt, and 24 km northwest of Bamberg, and 25 km east of Schweinfurt. Zeil is a historic Franconian town with a lot of signs like the old church, romantic houses, the hill church of "Zeiler Käpelle", middleage walls and towers and the castle ruine of the Schmachtenburg.

Emperor Heinrich II. acquired those at that time “Curia Cilin” settlement mentioned from the Mark count Schweinfurt and transferred it to the Monastery of Michelsberg in Bamberg. After Heinrichs death acquired bishop Eberhard Ith in the exchange Cilin of the Benediktinern. 1598 extorted high pin of Bamberg the citizen of Zeil to the return to the catholic faith. Zeil am Main was beside Bamberg emphasis of the witch processes in the high pin of Bamberg during the thirty years long war. Up to the establishment of the Bamberger Malefizhaus 1627 Zeil was even the central place of the processes. 1695 were built in Zeil the hunting seat of the bishop. The former upper office of the high pin of Bamberg arrived to 1810 in the course with the secularization at Bavaria, by border clearing the Grand Duchy of Würzburg was left, with which it fell 1814 finally at Bavaria. In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria the today's municipality developed with the municipality edict of 1818.

A traditional branch of the agriculture, the viticulture, is also today still in Zeil alive. The local resident winegrowers can be rightfully proud on their products, which mature approximately at the mountain-slopes around the city. The summer wine celebration in the old part of town is the high point in the meeting year. In addition, the Zeiler beer of the brewery Göller has the name of the city in completely Franconias admits made.
