Zar'roc

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Zar'roc ("Misery") is the sword given to Eragon by Brom in the Inheritance Trilogy. It used to belong to Morzan, one of the Thirteen Forsworns under Galbatorix's rule. In Morzan's possession it was used as a butchery tool slaying riders and dragons alike and was therefore feared by many. Eragon used it for a noble cause and gave it a new reputation. As all Riders' blades, it is unbreakable and will never dull. Generally the blade would be the same color as Rider's dragon, but Eragon receives Zar'roc instead. It's taken by Murtagh near the end of Eldest when he reveals that he's Eragon's older brother, and that the inheritance should go to the eldest, not the youngest.

Zar'roc, fashioned by an elf, has a blood red blade, a wine red sheath with Morzan's personal crest, a ruby in its pommel, and Morzan's personal crest engraved upon it.
