Zapp Mobile
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Zapp Mobile is the only CDMA mobile phone operator in Romania, since the country's market leaders use GSM. Overall, Zapp is the fourth largest network operator in the country and the 3rd mobile operator. Zapp has around 300,000 subscribers, giving the CDMA network only around 2% market share. It is also the only EV-DO mobile data operator in Romania, with a number of around 20.000 customers. Zapp is currently aimed at business people and companies, especially due to its attractive billing plan, that makes possible an easy creation of company networks through shared fees and special volume discounts, and because of fast and cheap mobile Internet access (up to 2.1 Mbit/s speed) in the absence of wireless wi-fi public networks. Turn offs include reduced coverage, poor signal (also resulting in poor data transfer rates) in many areas, and a very limited, rather outdated, expensive selection of phones in a country where mobile phones are an important status symbol (Zapp offered 7 types since 1999, and now only sells 5 models, compared to Vodafone or Orange offering now over 100 different models).
Zapp covers 87% [1] of the surface of Romania compared to Vodafone's and Orange's 98% of the population and 95% of the surface.
