Founded in 1994, ZAP (short for "Zero Air Pollution") is a publicly owned corporation (stock symbol ZP) company located in Santa Rosa, California which markets various electric vehicles. It is also making available US-legal gray-market conversions of the Smart car, which is popular in Europe for its tiny size and fuel economy. The US-registered importer used by ZAP (G&K) received clearance from the federal government to convert 2003 2004 2005 and 2006 model-year Smart Fortwos for resale in several US states. Several published articles (in USA Today and others) claim that about 300 or more cars have now been shipped. In October 2005 ZAP filed suit against DaimlerChrysler AG (parent company of Smart), alleging unfair trade practices and libel. ZAP is not an authorised dealer or reseller of DaimlerChrysler products.
ZAP also manufactures and distributes electric cars, electric bikes and electric scooters.
ZAP manufactures the xebra an all electric car and truck in china.
ZAP has distributed over 95,000 electric vehicles since its inception making it one of the largest in the world.
The Company also has an exclusive agreement with Obvio and Brasilian auto manufacturer.
