zappa (black) - Josh (white)

Hey! Welcome. Playing is pretty intuitive, if you have any questions, just ask. If you're white, go ahead, if you're black, tell me. Later, zappa.jake (talk) 03:19, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

Nice to see you came! Pick a convo topic, I'm fresh out. -zappa.jake (talk) 03:51, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
Start with notation, mark your moves so we can see the game history. Then let's talk about music. What's your poison?--Josh Rocchio 04:47, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
If you wish, I'll throw in a move chart soon, but I'm a little swamped at the moment. I enjoy techno/electronic, especially Hi-NRG stuff. You? -zappa.jake (talk) 18:59, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
Ahh, not me, all my roommates like that stuff. Me not so much. I prefer baroque and romantic classical, nasty funky jazz, and good hip hop.--Josh Rocchio 00:51, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] 42

How was Arizona?--Josh Rocchio 02:58, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

Good. Went to Sedona and Phoenix. Also saw the Grand Canyon. What have you been doing for the summer? -Zapptastic (talk) 13:07, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
Sedona is one of the prettiest places I have ever seen. My summer was pretty good, I went back home and hung with some relatives in Carini, and then went on a 2 week hike with my buddies and our dogs in the Catskills. Other than that I was just teaching Latin in summer school.--Josh Rocchio 19:17, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Game

Check.--Josh Rocchio 12:38, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Check.--Josh Rocchio 16:02, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
I see what you're trying to do. Nice try, but it's not going to work. -Zapptastic (talk) 20:18, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
Oh, I don't know, I think it will work. Check.--Josh Rocchio 22:52, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
Aw, shit. I spent like five minutes mulling over that move, making sure I wasn't totally screwed, totally wasn't looking out for the rook. Nevermind. -Zapptastic (talk) 05:28, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
Well, yeah, you left me with enough material that I can just kind of pick pieces off, now, instead of setting up a fancy mate. If you'd like, we could go over this game when it's over. I could offer some pointers. I have been doing this (playing chess) for so long...I lost an entire semester of college to chess...I'd play like 40 games a day online. We even spent a good deal of time playing blind (not sure if there's an english article for that).--Josh Rocchio 14:10, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

Sure, I'm up for that, I'm totally screwed anyways. How do you think I'm doing in my second game against (aero)? -Zapptastic (talk) 17:51, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

Ohh, gave him a free rook? Doesn't look good. He can move your bishop defending g3 with a single pawn, gaining knight's entry back into play. And in a sticky spot, I might add. You didn't make a move here, have you resigned?--Josh Rocchio 23:25, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
Not exactly, I got his knight in exchange. Anyways, yea, I forefeit, as noted on my main chess page. I see what you're talking about with the bishop though, maybe he won't look here and figure it out. He's not the best, but he's certainly better than me. -Zapptastic (talk) 01:30, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RfA

Anyways, I've been going through a bit of admin coaching lately, and me and my coach were considering a new RfA. On my last RfA, you left the following comment:

  1. Oppose, I've known you to be hasty, rash, and forgetful, both here and in other wikipedias, eg Vicipaedia. I certainly take at good faith that this is mostly due to your youth, and relative inexperience with structured collaborative productive engagement, and not due to any malintent, or permanent inability. Give it a little time, keep learning about procedure, and increase the breadth of your editing, like Elkman said, and I will certainly reconsider. Also, I have to say, it's been your move for quite some time.--Josh Rocchio 16:43, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

I would like to know if you still think that. If so, why you do, and if not, why you did at the time. Any other comments regarding a possible RfA? Thanks, your comments are greatly appreciated. Later, Zapptastic (talk) 04:36, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Well as far as breadth of editing, I noticed the same things others did, alot of goofing off like in the chess lounge, which I certainly don't condemn, but it isn't writing an encyclopedia. Alot of your edits at the time were pretty genre specific, an article about your high school, and one other I can't remember off the top of my head. I also read your talk page and read even an admission of your own pov pseudo vandalistic edit. The 1984 thing didn't go poorly at all on Vicipaedia, but still, I would have expected someone of administrator level thinking to ask around at a new vicipaedia to see what the customary practices are there before starting a new article. However, I have been keeping, if vaguely, abreast of your current admin coaching. I haven't been keeping abreast of your edits lately, but if you ran again, I would certainly reconsider.--Josh Rocchio 16:45, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

Well, thanks for being honest! I wouldn't call the chess lounge "goofing off", and still consider myself primarily dedicated to writing an encyclopedia. Granted, I did create an article about my school, but I believe it is notable enough (although high schools having articles is always under debate), and it's not a crappy article at all - I believe it's very thorough, NPOV, and well written. Yes, I did make a pseudo-vandalism edit, however, that was in March, six months ago, and it was in the form of a <!-- comment --> in WP space. I'm not saying it wasn't vandalism, and I'm not making excuses for it, but I don't think it's nearly as serious as other vandalism. It was meant as more of a joke, not vandalism. I guess I just assumed articles at Vici were same as Wiki, sorry if the pracices are different there. Also, 1984 wasn't my only created article there, I've created more. Anyways, I actually am running again at the moment, and I hope you do come around and reconsider. Thanks a lot for your honesty, it helps to have that explained. Thanks, Zapptastic (talk) 19:28, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
