[edit] Star Trek depictions

Your artistic renditions of Kira and Sisko are appreciated but how do they help the article? According to WP:Images, an image should be "relevant to the article they appear in and be of sufficient notability (relative to the article's topic)." The images you placed were just fan art done by yourself. I know you are an admin but I still do not see any rationale for fan art done by the user themselves should be on an encyclopedic page. They weren't by me. The reason I included them is because they are free license images, as opposed to the fair use images already present. -- Zanimum 16:54, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

I have questions regarding on the Somali wikipedia. I will wait your response on where should post my questions. My account at so.wikupedia.org is mimursal. Thanks in advance.

I am a Somali native speaker and a user of so.wikipedia.org (Somali wikipedia). there are some misused pages [1] to be removed and some other translation to be done on the main page. I am not sure if you speak Somali if sow we could communicate in Somali. I would like to volunteer the Administrator/sysop work for so.wikipedia.org. --Mimursal 20:26, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

Sorry about the delay to reply. I see you have discovered "Requests for permissions". If you need my support, I will vote for you. -- Zanimum 15:09, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

Don’t worry about the delay. Thanks for the support offer. I saw that you have indicated your support for me on Requests_for_permissions on meta wiki, but Walter has over crossed that support. [edit] Image:Marxist sandra l smith.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:Marxist sandra l smith.JPG. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Hroðulf (or Hrothulf) (Talk) 09:44, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Licensing Images

Hello there:

I saw your note about licensing images on my talk page. But for the most part, to my knowledge I have been using the GFDL/Creative Commons by SA when uploading my pics to WikiMedia, such as this one I did earlier in the week: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:GreenHead01-AltesMuseum-Berlin.png. So I must be missing out on something then; is at an earlier image you are interested in? (or am I missing something when it comes to the GFDL/CC?)

Cheers! Captmondo 22:49, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

Great to here you've started! There were a few ones from like two years ago or more, in the TTC and Toronto folders. You're okay with these being relicensed? -- Zanimum 14:38, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
In that case, not a problem -- go for it! Captmondo 10:35, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] List of longest running U.S. cable television series

I think I'm about 36 hours away from turning User:B.Wind/TV list sandbox into List of longest running U.S. cable television series as I had a particularly fruitful editing session last night. Any feedback you have will be most appreciated (please feel free to edit - the list probably needs a fresh perspective from someone without dyslexia). If it all looks good to everybody, I'll trim the comments and move the rest on Tuesday (November 15) or Wednesday (November 16). B.Wind 11:26, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

I spotted your message on the VC talk page - thanks for the question and comment. The Virtual classroom is in its experimental stage. You are also welcome to participate in the discussions in the classroom itself. What interfaces do you use to navigate and work on Wikipedia? [edit] 1,500,000th article

Hi! You said that the snail article was one of four created at the same time.. out of curiosity, do you remember the other three? Which articles? Regards, Punkmorten 22:26, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

I'm also interested in this matter (probably for the article in the Signpost this coming week). Thanks in advance. If you have any questions, please contact me at my talk page. Ian Manka 23:04, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
My decision was based on a comment to the main page talk by AmiDaniel: "It's not conclusive yet though--the contest seems to be between Kanab Ambersnail, Hotel Torni, and the one you mentioned. We won't know for sure for some time, so let's just try to stay calm". A while after he made it, there was no decision, so I decided to step in and just choose Kanab on the basis that it couldn't be declared trivial, as it is an endangered species, and that the article could easily be expanded. While the Hotel Torni did show promise, there was no guarantee that there'd be enough interest and easily available information to expand it. Other choices mentioned, like Alonzo Jackson, just seemed really dislikable. As there was no definitive answer, I saw no harm in choosing a symbolic 1,500,000th by making those judgement calls. Let me know if you want to know more. -- Zanimum 18:03, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
Sounds good. Thanks for your response. If you have any questions, please contact me at my talk page. Ian Manka 04:39, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Sherrie Westin

I've added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Sherrie Westin, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at Talk:Sherrie Westin. You may remove the {{dated prod}} template, and the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Well, Ral315 was technically right in deleting it. American fair use law only is applicable when the image in question is used to illustrate in an editorial context, aka the article space. I've undeleted for the time being, but I recommend uploading it to a file hosting service, and just linking to there. -- Zanimum 14:27, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your undeletion of Image:Bob rae posed 2006 campaign.JPG

Zanimum, why did you undeleted Image:Bob rae posed 2006 campaign.JPG? Did you consulted the admin who deleted it? And why do you believe the image is "not replaceable"? Best regards, --Abu Badali 22:21, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

None of the flickr photos of Rae are CC-BY, I've yet to hear back from anyone I contacted, urging relicensing. Because a random Wikinewsie applied to attend a Liberal event early the campaign, and didn't show up, we're unlikely to be able to get into this weekend's leadership vote. Rae will either become the leader of the federal opposition party, and be extremely hard to get a hold of, or he will lose, and disappear into private retirement. Additionally, his campaign manager personally encouraged the image's usage. Until Monday, there's no hope in heck I'd be able to converse with them, to ask them to relicense the image, due to the busy last minute campaigning. -- Zanimum 22:30, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
Well, this means you dispute Quadell's decision to delete the image as replaceable. Don't you agree that going through Wikipedia:Deletion review would be the proper course of actions? Simply reposting the image makes it a candidate for speedy deletion. --Abu Badali 22:38, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Copyright Violations

Since you last warned Lfabre, (and are an administrator) I thought you might know what to do next. He/She has just contributed large chunks of text (or created) The Financier , the Stoic, and The Titan , and copied her/his contributions from [[2]] and [[3]]. I haven't been able to find if and where The Titan one comes from, but it seems a suspiciously similar tone!!! Thanks for your help --Slp1 01:45, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Nbc al roker pr shot.jpeg

Thanks for uploading Image:Nbc al roker pr shot.jpeg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. Actually, it is you that needs to read up a bit, the only comment on that talk page is from me! Secondly, there is clearly no consensus to use the images template, in fact there seems to largely be consensus not to use them. Do not add them back to the articles until the community has decided to do so.

Also, note that not deleting a template does not mean it should be used on articles, for the relevant discussions of no consensus see Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Illustrated_Wikipedia, Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard#Illustrative_comics and Wikipedia:Village_pump_(policy)#Wikipedia:WikiProject_Illustrated_Wikipedia. [edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Book anne of green gables.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Book anne of green gables.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Hi, I recently replaced your uploaded cover image with an image of the original cover of the book per User:Chick Bowen/Bad book covers. Thanks for the chance to comment on the questions for the Tyler Kyte interview. I'll give some thought to specific questions, and will get back to you in a day or two, unless you need something right away.

I used to do lots of interviews when I was a magazine editor. Two general comments: (1) do some easy lead-in questions as a warm-up, and then go for some open-ended questions that will provoke thought; and (2) find out what they are really excited about - what really engages their interest - and that will give you the most interesting angle for your story.

Thanks again. I'll be back with specifics.

[edit] Category:Cinemas And movie theaters in the United States

I notice that you (or your 'bot, more likely) yesterday removed the various Fox Theater articles from the category "Cinemas and movie theaters" and placed them in the category "Cinemas and movie theaters in the United States". Is this going to be an ongoing project to move all American movie theaters with WP articles to the more specific category? At the moment, the category link leads to that page with only the nine Fox theaters on it. I've been adding various theater pages I edit or stumble across to the old category for a while, but if the more specific national category is to become standard then I'll just start using that from now on. I guess it has to be Clifton because of the set of cartoons at the far right of User:Greg_Williams. Now if we could just get the respective editors to include a pointer to the cartoon in each article! EdJohnston 20:23, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Tyler Kyte Interview

I'll try to get back to you on possible questions (I can think of several) by the end of this weekend. I have been super-busy at work (lots of overtime) because of deadlines for projects, and have also been sidetracked by having a Wikipedia article (on a singer) nominated for deletion, for reasons of notability. There is an ongoing debate.[6]

Actually, I got to writing this article because of Alexz Johnson, in a way. One day, I was checking iTunes for her music, and was following the leads to artists mentioned in the "listeners also liked" section. I really liked one of the singers in that list - Alana Grace - and wound up writing an article on her. As an Alexz fan, you might like her too (some songs are at [7]) - another singer/songwriter who combines talent, training, and hard work. She has a CD coming out in a couple of months.

I'll be back to you soon with some suggested interview questions. Thanks for the opportunity to comment.
