Zagnut
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
ZAGNUT is a candy bar popular in the United States that was originally launched in 1930. It was acquired by The Hershey Company in 1996. Its main ingredients are peanut butter and toasted coconut, and it weighs 1.75 ounces (50 g). Unlike almost all other candy bars, it contains no chocolate. Candy stores rarely stock Zagnut, since it has only a niche market. Most Zagnuts are sold online.
[edit] Appearances in pop culture
- In the movie Beetlejuice, starring Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin among many others, the ghoul Betelgeuse (Michael Keaton) uses a ZAGNUT candy bar to lure a housefly to its death. Betelgeuse promptly devours the fly.
- Zagnut bars also appear in the movies Seems Like Old Times and The Great Outdoors.
- Snake uses a Zagnut to rob the Kwik-E-Mart in a The Simpsons comic book.
- In 48 Hours, Jack Cates (Nick Nolte) angrily purchases a candy bar from the precinct candy machine for Reggie Hammond (Eddie Murphy), who has been whining for dinner. Says Cates: "Here's your Goddamn dinner!" It is, of course, a Zagnut.
- A Zagnut bar appears in the Homestar Runner Halloween special "3 Times Halloween Funjob".
