Zabeel was a smart Australian racehorse and now champion sire.

A bay son of Sir Tristram from the Nureyev mare Lady Giselle, he was bred in New Zealand but raced only in Australia. During his racing career he was trained by Colin and David Hayes.

His major victories include the 1989 MVRC Moonee Valley Stakes, 1990 VRC Australian Guineas, 1990 MVRC Alister Clark Stakes and the 1990 VRC Craiglee Stakes.

Zabeel retired to stud the winner of seven races and over $1 million, and has sired numerous outstanding gallopers, including Octagonal and Might And Power. These two alone won 17 Group One races, including the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups, two Cox Plates, three runnings of the Mercedes Classic, and the Sydney three-year-old Triple Crown.

Zabeel's half-brother Baryshnikov (by Kenmare) also won the Australian Guineas and retired to stud, and another half-brother Break The Vault (by Redoute's Choice) was recently retired to stud.
