Yurievo Airport
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Yurievo (Russian: Юрьево) is one of the two airports in the city of Velikiy Novgorod, Russia. It is located somewhat 4-5 km to the south of the city centre. Currently the airport is not operational. Yurievo used to be a busy airport in the soviet times, with regular flights to Minsk, Moscow, Krasnodar etc. After the fall of the Soviet Union, the airport became abandoned due to the economic stagnation. In 1996 Yurievo was hosting only one regular daily flight to Moscow, but it ceased very soon due to small number of travellers (caused by high ticket prices). The only purpose Yurievo these days is serving a meteorological station, which is still operational and providing weather forecasts for the city.
