Yuktobania

Yuktobania is a fictional country that was first introduced in the PlayStation 2 video game Ace Combat 5, and later mentioned briefly in the sequal Ace Combat Zero. It is one of the largest countries in the Ace Combat World, and rivals the current superpower Osea in terms of military might.

Yuktobania is not located on the same continent as Belka or Osea. It is on the other side of the Ceres Ocean which divides the two main continents. Before the 2010 Circum-Pacific War (otherwise known as the Osean-Yuktobonian conflict) Yuktobania is roughly estimated as being 14,660,000 km² (around the size of Canada) A rather important part of the country has been occupied by the Osean forces during the conflict, but they are assumed to have been given back after the war. Yuktobania is surrounded by Verusa, Sotoa, Anea, and Clavis.

Yuktobania is a huge country whose sphere of influence is spread all over the world as one of the world's superpowers. It has been placed on a continent opposite from Osea to show geographically the Eastern-Western split of the world. (As it was in the Cold War in real life.)

Yuktobania is assumed to have a Slavonic culture. The architecture of Yuktobania is very industrialised. The name Yuktobania should come from Yugoslavia. Bania is a unbased name that should refer to the people of the country, and Yukto a geographical suffix. (Yugo-south , Slavia-designs the people of the region ). The names of Yuktobanian regions and towns has not only a Russian style, but also those from all of eastern Europe, such as Dresdene, Dama lake, Okchabursk, etc. The three most prominent cultures Yuktobania is remniscient of are : Russian, Czech, and Serbo-Croatian. But Russian culture is the most dominant, the Yuktobanians have mostly Russian names, for example: Zubov, Nikanor, Oka Nieba, Grom, Pitomnik, Alyosha, etc.

The Yuktobanians are also highly patriotic to their country, to the point of willing to sacrifice their lives committing immoral acts for Yuktobania in reprisal to attacks of the Oseans.

Judging by the locations one can see, it has a very bizarre climate. In the center of the continent (at a lattitude where there is a rather continental temperate climate) Yuktobania has a huge desert called the Jilachi Desert. The very north of the country has an Arctic climate, while on the south there are tropical regions covered by jungle. Otherwise, Yuktobania is covered by a mountainous terrain.

• Bastok Peninsula - Landing point of a massive Osean offensive into Yuktobania.
• Cinigrad - The Yuktobanian Capital City. Urban fighting broke out here in the Circum-Pacific War.
• Cruik Fortress - nicknamed "the Colosseum" for its round shape, it is the last stronghold guarding Cinigrad.
• Dresdene - mountainous area full of villages and tourist attractions, an engineering university is also present there. During the Circum-Pacific War, the university is attacked by the 8492nd Squadron, which sparked retailiation attacks in Osea.
• Jilachi Desert - a desert surrounded by mountain ranges, farmland and oilfields are abundant.
• Okchabursk - a major city. It was targeted for a nuclear strike from the Arkbird, pilotted by Belkans.
• Glubina - A hilly tundra in Centeral east Yuktobania. During the war, Yuktobania commissioned an internment camp in one of the valleys of Glubina, but was raided by a Marine force added by the air support of Wardog Sqaudron. However, one pilot was forced to bail out over Glubina, and a rescue team had to come in the next day, defended by the Wardogs once again.
• Payavlenie Ravine - a series of ravines in Northern Yuktobania, mining activities are present. A resistance group stole a nuclear warhead from the military and dismantled it here.

[edit] Political structure

The Yuktobanian head of government is the prime minister. Seryozha Viktrovich Nikanor serves as the prime minister of Yuktobania before and after the Yukto-Osean conflict (Circum-Pacific War), but he was kidnapped by Belkan factions shortly before the war. Like in the U.S.S.R., the Yuktobanian military has a tremendous power upon the country.

Yuktobania appears clearly as an important ally of Osea, Ustio and all the other aggressed countries during the Belkan War in 1995. Yuktobania engaged many resources into the victory of the "Allies", and from this moment it became as an official ally of Osea. After the Belkan war, Yuktobania recruited a Belkan air squadron known as the Ofnir, who would lead Yuktobania into a war with Osea in 2010. Yuktobania developed two submarine attack carriers, Scinfaxi and Hrimfaxi, capable of launching burst missiles which can wipe out anything below 5000 feet. Yuktobania is one of the four countries capable of making nuclear weapons. Yuktobania also participated in the joint-project with Osea of making the Arkbird, a maneuvering orbital spacecraft - the first step into building "the bridge of peace".

In 2010, Belkan factions kidnapped Prime Minster Nikanor and swayed the Yuktobanian military to take over and attack Osea, a long-time ally. Yuktobania was on the offensive before the war escalated, but was quickly pushed back into their own soil after. Aside from conventional warfare, Yuktobanian strategies involve terrorist attacks and surprise attacks on civilian targets. During the war, both Scinfaxi and Hrimfaxi were sunk by the Sand Island Squadron of Osea. The squadron became known as the "Razgriz" and effectively destroyed Yuktobanian morale throughout the course of the war. After the fall of the Cruik Fortress, the last stronghold guarding the capital Cinigrad, Yuktobania holds off the Osean army in the streets of Cinigrad. The Razgriz later rescued Prime Minister Nikanor from the Belkans, and Nikanor persuaded his country to end the war on the Osean carrier, the Kestrel. This has led some Yuktobanian vessels to call Nikanor a traitor, while others joined the Osean Kestrel fleet (where Nikanor was in). The former then fired on the latter, and attempted to sink the Kestrel. Some Osean ships also called Kestrel a traitor for joining forces with the enemy. The resulting chaos was ended by the Razgriz, who sunk all ships hostile to the Kestrel. Then Prime Minister Nikanor shook hands with President Harling of Osea in a televised speech, formed a coalition with Osea and turned the war against Belka instead. The conflict finally ended with a victory in the North Osean/South Belkan city of Sudentor.

Yuktobania possesses an enormous military, almost (if not, as can be interpreted by some dialogue in game, larger) on par with Osea's. Due to its huge army, Yuktobania could be classified as a superpower. Its military is comprised of the Air Force, Army, Navy, Marines and Special Forces.

The Air Force is a large branch which contains different squadrons. Molniya, Buran, Luch, Kvant, Gorizont, Ofnir are the main squadrons. Kvant Squadron appears to be the largest, operating at least 10 wings of 30+ aircraft, while Gorizont appears to be the most well-equipped. The Yuktobanian Navy is a large branch of the Yuktobanian military. The Navy appears to use highly advanced warships, a single odd exception being the refitted Iowa class battleship Upor. All ships are Russian, with the exception of the American Iowa Class Battleship, Whidbey Island Class Landing Ship, and Pegasus Class Fast Attack Craft, and the Japanese Kongo Class Destroyer. A small branch of the military that operates covertly, carrying out terrorist activities, like the Spetsnaz or to a lesser extent the KGB . The force is named Varyag Special Forces.

• Yuktobania appears as an allegory to the Soviet Union in real life.
• The Varyag Special Forces unit may be a reference to the Cossacks. Like the Cossacks, the Varangians (Варяги in Russian) are an ethnic group. Many were pirates and mercenaries. The Cossacks were an ethnic group, and an elite military unit until the Russian Revolution. The Varyag is also the name of a Russian Aircraft Carrier and Cruiser.
