Yukinooh (ユキノオー Yukinoō?) is one of the 493 fictional species of Pokémon creatures from the multi-billion-dollar[1] Pokémon media franchise – a collection of video games, anime, manga, books, trading cards and other media, created by Satoshi Tajiri. Yukinooh is famous for being one of the Pokémon revealed before the Japanese release of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. The purpose of Yukinoō in the games, anime and manga, as with all other Pokémon, is to battle both wild Pokémon, untamed creatures encountered while the player passes through various environments, and tamed Pokémon owned by Pokémon trainers.[2]
Its name is likely a portmanteau of Yuki, Japanese for snow and no, simply of, and Oh, japanese for king. Literally means "King of Snow"
[edit] Characteristics
Yukinooh appears to be a large yeti or abominable snowman. Its paws and legs are green in color and it has white fur. Its body is round, but its head is quite strange, with two eyes hidden; its fur actually appears to be pine needles, which along with its type seem to imply it is a mobile evergreen covered in snow. It also is somewhat similar to the radish spirit in the movie Spirited Away.
[edit] In the video games
Yukinooh will be one of many new Pokémon to make its first appearance upon the release of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl for the Nintendo DS.
Yukinooh is used by the seventh gym leader of Sinnoh, Suzuna, at level 42, making it her strongest Pokémon.
Yukinooh can be obtained by evolving Yukikaburi, which is also a Pokémon with the type combination of Grass and Ice-type. It is also able to be caught in the wild on the top of Tengan Mountain. The Grass and Ice type combination will give Yukinooh many weaknesses for its opponents to prey upon, the biggest being a weakness to Fire-type attacks (which will do four times as much damage). Yukinooh's Special Ability is "Snow Storm", which summons a Hail when it is sent out to battle. Yukinooh can learn Wood Hammer, a Grass-type Double-Edge-like move.
