The Yugoslav League Championship was the biggest domestic football event in the former Yugoslavia.

The format of the league championships is a season-long derby (double round-robin), where each team plays every other team both at home and away.

↑ A special format tournament was held to ""re-affirm" the newly found Yugoslav unity. The tournament consisted of eight teams; Serbia, Croatia, Macedonia, Vojvodina, Slovenia, Montenegro, the province of Vojvodina, and a team played by members of the JNA.
