Yuffie Kisaragi (ユフィ・キサラギ Yufi Kisaragi?) is a video game character from the PlayStation game Final Fantasy VII. She has short black hair and brown eyes. She is a ninja and a thief, wielding an oversized shuriken. The manual for Final Fantasy VII states that she is 16 years old and 5' 2" tall. Yuffie also makes appearances in the CGI movie Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, the cellphone game Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII and the PlayStation 2 games Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII and the Kingdom Hearts series. She also appears as a hidden character in the PlayStation game Ehrgeiz. In the English versions of Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, she is voiced by Christy Carlson Romano, while she is voiced by Mae Whitman in the English versions of Kingdom Hearts II and Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII. Including Ehrgeiz, Yumi Kakazu voices Yuffie in the Japanese versions of the Kingdom Hearts series and the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII.

[edit] General aspects
Yuffie wears outfits that appear to be the traditional garb of Wutai, the culture of which is based on real-world east Asia. Yuffie is a kunoichi whose weapon of choice is a fuuma shuriken, and she suffers from motion sickness, which serves as something of a running gag throughout the game and in Advent Children.
[edit] Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII
Yuffie encountered the Turks while they were at Wutai. After losing to Midgar, Wutai's ruling figure Godo Kisaragi, Yuffie's father, began to turn their home into a tourist attraction for outsiders. This did not suit Yuffie who eventually began running off, stealing Materia from unaware travelers.
[edit] Final Fantasy VII
One of two secret characters in Final Fantasy VII, Yuffie encounters Cloud in any forest after leaving the Mythril Mines near Fort Condor. If the player defeats her in combat and then chooses the correct series of dialogue during a conversation with her, she will join the party. An incorrect answer causes her to steal some of the party's gil and flee. Yuffie is very spirited and mischievous, and can be a smart-aleck at times. Though she calls herself a materia hunter, she is, in fact, a materia thief, albeit the reason behind her thieving is for a noble cause brought to effect in a misguided manner.
If the Wutai Continent is visited before the party's Midgar raid, Yuffie will steal the gang's Materia— and, of course, the party chases after her. Yuffie leads them a good distance north, to her hometown of Wutai, where she plays several tricks on the party during their attempt to retrieve their materia. In the end, she gives it back after being saved from Don Corneo. Following this, she stays on her best behavior.
In another sidequest, one which can be played any time following her theft of the materia, she will prove herself by beating the bosses of Wutai's five story Pagoda. The last of these battles is against her own father, Godo Kisaragi. These fights and the sequence of conversations following them enable both father and daughter to understand the other's reasoning. Godo then asks Cloud to take Yuffie with him on his quest.
Later, while Cloud and the others attempt to stop Meteor, Yuffie helps Vincent in the evacuation of Midgar.[1]
Near the end of the game's Disc 1, it is possible for the player to set main character Cloud Strife up on a date with her, Aerith Gainsborough, Tifa Lockhart or Barret Wallace. During the date with Yuffie, she will kiss Cloud, leading to an awkward moment between the two which ends with the sound of Yuffie smacking Cloud.
[edit] Advent Children
Formerly on a quest for Materia, Yuffie returned to her father's dojo where she grew up in Wutai, to live a happy, relatively normal life. That is, until Kadaj's evil reached Wutai, and the children of that town where kidnapped. Word of this incident sent Yuffie straight to Midgar in search for the children. Yuffie arrived to Edge via the Shera with the others to help out in the fight against Bahamut SIN. She was forced to watch Cloud's fight with Kadaj and Sephiroth on the Shera.
In Reminiscence, an extra scene of AC's DVD that features clips from the original game, Yuffie attempts to contact Cloud (who was currently out in the open road) to visit Barret (she also called/pestered Vincent and Cid to contact him as well). Upon arriving at the place where Barret is, he gave Cloud her gift. A "closed for business" sign to be used for his shop.
The staff of Advent Children admitted in the commentary that the box of materia Cloud kept in the church was indeed Yuffie's, in which she left behind for safekeeping, explaining why she says "Whose been stealing my Materia?" to Tifa when she enters the fight against Bahamut SIN.
[edit] Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII
One year after the events of Advent Children, Yuffie leaves home and is somewhat "forced" to join Reeve's World Regenesis Organization in charge of espionage and intelligence gathering. She aids Vincent many times throughout the game, and also serves to provide comic relief to counter-balance Vincent's more serious character. There is some speculation by the players that she may harbor feelings for Vincent while she may simply be the closest comrade Vincent has in proximity to aid him in times of need.
[edit] Other appearances
[edit] Kingdom Hearts series
In Kingdom Hearts, Yuffie is first seen in Traverse Town after the battle between Sora and Leon. Along with him, Cid and Aerith Gainsborough, she fights to defeat the Heartless who had destroyed their world while she was a little girl. She refers to herself as the "Great Ninja Yuffie". She is missing some of her outfit in the first game, such as the metal shoulder armor. This mainly due to the fact that her character design in Kingdom Hearts was supposed to be Rikku from Final Fantasy X. Yuffie also appeared in the Olympus Coliseum in an optional fight with Leon or alone.
In Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, Sora met Yuffie, who was actually a projection from his memories. Like the others in Traverse Town, she was perplexed that she managed to identify him, despite the fact she had no recollection of meeting. While "Yuffie" was puzzled by this dilemma, she still helped Sora much like her real-world counterpart.
In Kingdom Hearts II, Yuffie aids Leon and the others as part of the Hollow Bastion Restoration Committee, this time appearing in her Advent Children attire. She was the first Final Fantasy character from the first series who welcomes Sora in their hometown, and she explains the defense mechanisms called claymores that protected the area. She helps Sora on the Ravine Trail, and appears in the Olympus Coliseum with the other Final Fantasy characters, Leon in particular. She also aided in the defense of her home when the MCP attempted to invade with his digitzed Heartless. During the ending credits, we see Yuffie giving a sea-salt ice cream to Cid, while Yuna, Paine and Rikku immediately stole hers, prompting the ninja to run after them.
[edit] Ehrgeiz
Yuffie is a playable character in the PlayStation version of Ehrgeiz along with Tifa, Cloud, Sephiroth, Vincent and Zack, though — like the other Final Fantasy VII characters featured in the game — she has no storyline in the game.
Her fighting style is almost a copy to the game's resident ninja Sasuke.
[edit] Itadaki Street Portable
Yuffie makes her first appearance in the Itadaki Street series in the upcoming Itadaki Street Portable for the PSP along with Cloud, Aerith, Tifa and Sephiroth as one of the playable Final Fantasy VII characters.
[edit] Trivia
- Yuffie is one of few prominent Asian characters in Final Fantasy VII, which is interesting, considering Square is a Japanese company.
- Due to the fact that Yuffie and Vincent Valentine are optional characters in Final Fantasy VII, they are not featured in any FMVs , including the ending sequence in that game.
- Yuffie's original outfit for Final Fantasy VII was mainly red, as opposed to green. Her alternate costume in Ehrgeiz bears this design.
- Yuffie appears in Kingdom Hearts in an outfit originally designed for Rikku. In Kingdom Hearts II, she appears in her Advent Children outfit, along with a pink ribbon on her shuriken, as featured in Dirge of Cerberus and Advent Children.
- Yuffie was the only character shown to kiss Cloud during the date minigame in Final Fantasy VII.
- Yuffie has two character themes in Dirge of Cerberus: Mysterious Ninja and Ninja Girl from Wutai.
- In the Japanese version of Advent Children Cait Sith refers Yuffie as "Ojo-san," meaning 'young lady.'
- Cid and Yuffie are the only characters in Dirge of Cerberus who refer Vincent by nickname, "Vince."
- In Dirge of Cerberus, Rosso called Yuffie as "Wutai Flea" after her shuriken opens a flash. Instead, she is primarily trying to save Vincent in the Shinra Manor after Rosso succeeded in taking the ProtoMateria. In this chance, Rosso might have known that Yuffie came from Wutai.
- Yuffie shows recurring signs of kleptomania, though this is not directly referenced.
