[edit] Lord Yu's namesake

It has been said in this article that the System Lord Yu was named after the founder of the Xia dynasty.

However, in the fifth season episode "Summit," Daniel Jackson, acting as Yu's personal slave, announces his master by saying, "I represent the Jade Emperor, the exalted Lord Yu Hang Shang-Ti." That's what the captions say, what they meant is "Yu Huang Shangdi," which basically repeats that he's the Jade Emperor.

Now while the Jade Emperor was basically a good god, it could be argued that Yu was a fairly decent Goa'uld. Ya know, as far as these guys can be good.

The point is, Daniel himself names Lord Yu the Jade Emperor, which is not the same as Yu the Great, founder of the Xia dynasty. Sharprs 11:03, 17 November 2005 (UTC)

I was watching the episode Fair game recently where Daniel describes Yu as "Yu the Great" and says that "he did not assume the role of a god parcé, but may have been one of China's first emperors" and also that he "possesed great mythic powers and sprang to the world out of a dragon's body". I do not have much info on either the historical or the religious Yu, but when looking at the article of Yu the Great, that seems to match Daniels descriptions best.
Could it be that Daniel has over the course of the series changed his mind on the actual historical identity of Yu? ---ramz- ask? 23:58, 2 April 2006 (CET)

[edit] demise

It was never revealed if he was killed or seriously wounded in the episode. Besides, with their sarcophagi, they could revive him even from death. Do keep the sentence "presumed deceased" in the article, please until we learn otherwise in an episode.MPaquette 16:44, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
