Youssef Sofiane

Youssef Sofiane (Arabic: يوسف سُفيان‎) (born July 8, 1984 in Villefranche-sur-Saône) is a French football player of Algerian origin who currently plays for Sportfreunde Siegen in the German Regionalliga since 2006. Prior to his move to Germany, he played with La Louviere in the Jupiler League and Coventry City on a non-contract basis.

His first team was Auxerre, for whom he played as a trainee until June 2002, before he made a free transfer to West Ham United. Until the termination of his contract, he had played as a substitute in one league game, and been featured in a League Cup match, a home victory against Preston North End in August 2003. He has so far scored one goal during his tenure in England, during a loan spell at Notts County player in September 2004. Sofiane has also recently had a loan spell at Dutch club Roda JC through January-May 2005. After his contract was terminated by West Ham in the summer of 2005 he had a successful trial with Coventry City. This resulted in the club signing him permanently on October 14, 2005.
