"You My Girl" is a the second and final single taken from rapper Khia's debut album Thug Misses. It features Markus Vance.

[edit] Song information

"You My Girl" was released in the fall of 2002. Although the song never caught on like her previous smash "My Neck, My Back (Lick It)," it was maybe the tenderest, most real, and best-written song of the album. It is about Khia's deceased mother and her struggle to live without her. The lyrics tell about Khia's mother struggle during her unknown illness, "To your friends and your kins / even sick didn't quit / What's the thanks that you get for the time that you spent / Raising kids paying bills talking shit paying rent."

[edit] The video

In the music video for "You My Girl," Khia sings to her mother, who is a stripper. Khia is in the video, though her mother never notices her. Due to the content, BET only played it on their late night video shows BET: Uncut. It was never played on 106 & Park.

[edit] Charts

Though many believe "You My Girl" is lyrically superior to "My Neck, My Back (Lick It)," the latter remains the bigger hit. "You My Girl" never made the charts and only was successful underground. When Thug Misses was released in the United Kingdom, "You My Girl" still couldn't gain success.
