"You Can't Do That" is a song by The Beatles released as the B-side of the single "Can't Buy Me Love", and included on the UK album A Hard Day's Night and the US album The Beatles' Second Album. John Lennon has written the music and the lyrics and appears as the lead vocalist.
The theme of this song is about how jealous the narrator is with his girlfriends. The theme is re-visited in other Lennon compositions, such as "Run For Your Life" and "Jealous Guy".
"You Can't Do That" was covered by Harry Nilsson for his debut album Pandemonium Shadow Show. Rather than simply covering it, Nilsson worked song titles from 20 other Beatles tunes into the mix.
It is one of the few Beatles songs on which John Lennon plays lead guitar throughout (including the solo).
