Yoshino, Nara

Yoshino (吉野町; -cho) is a town located in Yoshino District, Nara Prefecture, Japan.

As of 2003, the town had an estimated population of 10,580 and a density of 110.61 persons per km². The total area was 95.65 km².

Mt. Yoshino is famous for its 100 000 sakura trees. They are planted in three groves at different altitude so that they bloom at different times of the spring.

For adherents of Shugendo, Yoshino is also the traditional beginning of the Omine-san pilgrimage trail, though nowadays it is more common for hikers to begin and end their trek from the Dorogawa district of Tenkawa Village.
