Yosef (Josef) Porath (Porat) (born 7 June 1909, Breslau, Germany – died 1996, Israel)

His German name was Heinz Foerder and changed to Yosef Porath in Israel. He played in twelve Chess Olympiads. In 1928, he was a member of German team at the 2nd Olympiad in The Hague. In 1934, he emigrated to Palestine. Foerder represented Palestine team at first board at the 6th Olympiad in Warsaw in 1935, and at second board at the 8th Olympiad in Buenos Aires in 1939. He won individual gold medal (+9 -1 =4) in last pre-war Olympiad. After WW II, Porath played for Israeli team in nine Olympiads (1952 – 1968).

He won the Palestine Championship in 1937, 1940 (after a play-off), and the Israeli Championship in 1953, 1957, 1959 and 1963. In 1964, he won in Ulan Bator (zonal tournament). In 1964, he took 21st in Amsterdam (interzonal).

Porath was awarded, along with Moshe Czerniak, the IM title in 1952.
