York Nomad Society

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The York Nomad Society or YNS are the hooligan group associated with York City Football Club who play in the Conference National. The YNS was formed in 1981 as an alternative travel to away matches for City supporters. The coaches the YNS put on were cheaper and allowed breaks at pubs for drinking. Since the nineties however, the YNS has become a hooligan group rather than supporter group. Large clashes have transpired in the last decade with Bury, Hartlepool, Macclesfield, Exeter, Aldershot, Oxford, Halifax, Accrington, Huddersfield, Carlisle and Doncaster. York were second in the 2005 arrest figures for their league. Although considered a small group in hooligan circles, the YNS have turned out 100 lads at several matches in the last couple of years including a Boxing day match at Scarborough. Recently in October 2006, 80 made the trip to Oxford where clashes were reported in the local media.
