York House School is an independent girls school for kindergarten through grade 12 located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
It is currently going through a stage of renovation in order to promote the quality of its campus.
York House is located in the Shaughnessy neighbourhood in the heart of Vancouver. Founded in 1932 as a Canadian school for girls, it adopted an English motto as opposed to a Latin one: "Not For Ourselves Alone". The motto is the focus of the school's community service program.

[edit] Academics
York House is first and foremost an academic school offering a wide range of courses. It offers Advanced Placement courses to grades 11-12, and Honours courses in math and French for grades 8-10.
However, despite high rankings from the Fraser Institute Report Card on Secondary Schools in BC, York House has not finished in the top third on the UBC First Year Calculus Results since 1998, nor has it shown particular promise on senior math contests such as the Euclid Competition. On the other hand, the junior school has been listed on the National School Honour Roll for the Pythagoras contest for the last three years.
Up until the 2004–2005 school year, the Junior School (grades 1-6) offered a bilingual program to girls who wished to take all their subjects in two languages, but this program was phased out.
[edit] Athletics
York House is known for its excellence in athletics. In basketball, the Tigers won provincial championships in 1999, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006. Tigers have also placed top 5 in cross-country the past two years including 3rd in 2005 and run strong programs in track and field, volleyball as well as soccer, field hockey, swimming, badminton and netball. York House girls combine with boys from St. George's School, Vancouver in the sport of Ultimate and have won two straight BC titles as well (3 in the past 5 years).
[edit] Arts
York House is also proud of its arts programs. In music, the Senior Band has received multiple awards, and Ragazza, the senior vocal jazz group is always in high demand around the Christmas season to do shows. Bands tour and compete at many top festivals. York House's drama program stages a few productions each year. As well as the Clothing and Textiles department hosts a yearly fashion show in the end of the year.
[edit] Culture
Aside from the administration, the girls are governed by an elected student executive, consisting of a Head Girl, a Vice-Head Girl, two Community Service Captains, four House Captains, and three grade 12 Class Presidents.
The girls wear kilts made from the Black Watch tartan, white socks in the spring and fall seasons, and navy socks in the winter. They have the option of a long sleeved or a short sleeved golf shirt, or a button down shirt. They wear black dress shoes of no more than one inch.
