Talk:York University Students' Union

I'm not so sure that York is a member of the Russel group... Follow the link in the article... Vanky 10:30, 15 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- You're right, it doesn't seem that York is a member of the Russell Group, although it is a member of the 1994 Group. — Matt Crypto10:44, 15 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Indeed. The Russell Group is a research-related grouping of universities, and York isn't large enough to be included. I seem to recall Durham being absent for the same reason. Matthew 21:28, 26 September 2005 (UTC)
The article says that YUSU is ineffective and then gives a couple of reasons. I would posit that it is ineffective because it is seen by most as being a playground for the political societies and their petty points scoring. It also seemed to be seen as being in control of very little (which perhaps adds to why it gets seen as a political playground), hence not really worth bothering with. This is the impression I got from my time at the university (2000-3). Matthew 21:28, 26 September 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Why delete the list of presidents?
Can anyone explain why the list of presidents has been all but been deleted from this page? Though I hve never been anything to do with the union at York, I have in the past found the list useful and was suprised to see it gone today. I will revert the changes for now. [edit] Students' Union / Association sabs list
- I've started a discussion on Chriscf's Talk Page as this involve all the union's page. Please go there to provide your opinion if you're interested. -- KTC 15:58, 12 December 2005 (UTC)
- I will be removing the above discussion from my talk page. User talk pages are for personal communication. They are not for conducting general content debates. Feel free to start a discussion in the Wikipedia namespace, but this is not an appropriate discussion for user pages. Chris talk back 16:00, 19 December 2005 (UTC)
- I believe a new place for the discussion is going to be set up. For now I have again reverted your changes as I believe that as a discussion on the idea has been started the articles should remain in the original state until a solution is found. Also, it is wise to keep the info in the debated articles so people can actually see what is being discussed rather than having to search to see what some people see the problem is./ Further, apart from yourself, not many words have been said as to why the list should be removed where as several people have spoken out in favour of keeping them. Hopefully all the discussion so far will be moved to it's own talk page for easy reference and debate. Evil Eye 17:23, 19 December 2005 (UTC)
- That would probably be because only the small group in favour of keeping them have actually seen this so far. Removing again, until someone provides a good reason why the sabs in and of themselves merit a list right now, as opposed to how they might be notable in future, and how some people have been notable in the past. In general, association and the future are not currencies most people here will deal in. Chris talk back 17:30, 19 December 2005 (UTC)
