Yonge and St. Clair

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yonge and St. Clair is a neighbourhood in midtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada. According to the city of Toronto the neighbourhood is bordered by Yonge to the East, Avenue Rd to the West, Mt Pleasant to the North and the CPR rail line to the south.

The neighbourhood ranges from the affluent to the hopefully affluent. With a huge percentage of high rise renters it's perhaps surprising to see so much money in the area. However, when you see hockey legend Tie Domi cruise to the local Starbucks you get a bit of a 'normal rich' flavour.

Perhaps it is less surprising when you consider the surrounding neighbourhoods are Rosedale, Casa Loma, Forest Park and Mount Pleasant, some of Toronto's most affluent. Yonge and St. Clair, however, manages to leave that rich feeling behind and with the large population of youth gives you a feeling that Yonge and Eligible is moving down the street (a reference to Yonge and Eglington to the North).

Every year new restaurants, shops and services open up which is creating a fairly self contained pocket of the city and with recent grads with their eyes set on Bay street moving in, it's only moving up.

Deer Park and Summerhill are also part of the official "Yonge and St.Clair neighbourhood" according to the boundaries set by the city of Toronto.
