Yonaguni, Okinawa

Yonaguni (与那国町; -chou) is a town located in Yaeyama district, Okinawa, Japan.

As of 2003, the town has an estimated population of 1,822 and the density of 63.09 persons per km². The total area is 28.88 km².

Yonaguni is also the name of the westernmost island of Japan, with three main towns, Yonaguni, Sonai, and Kubura.

It is also home to two mysterious Ryukyuan writing systems, "Kaida-di" (also used on Ishigaki Island where it is called "Kaida-zi") and "Daahan" (also used on Ishigaki Island where it is called "Yaahan").
