Yog's Law

Yog's law is a law for writers, first expressed by James D. Macdonald as "Money flows toward the writer." A frequently cited corollary is: "The only place an author should sign a check is on the back, when they endorse it."

The law popularizes the belief that authors should not have to pay people to publish their book, the authors themselves should be paid to write the book, thus helping unwary novice writers avoid numerous scams that prey on those trying to find publication.
