Yiannis Dritsas was the distributor for Nestle in Greece. The year was 1957, the place Thessaloniki, Greece. During the International Fair, Mr. Giannis Dritsas delivered a new product for kids. It was a chocolate drink, prepared instantly by mixing it with milk and the use of a shaker. An employee of Mr. Dritsas by the name Vakondios, needed his coffee fix and seeing as there was no hot water around, he came up with the excellent idea of using the shaker in order to prepare his coffee with cold water, coffee and sugar and ala "Greek Frappe" was shaken for the first time, signaling a new era in coffee drinking that has come to be known as Greek frappé coffee or as the Greeks just call it Frappe. Because of his employee's craving for caffeine Dritsas had a new product for not just the young kids but the older ones too, which, in little time, had managed to become one of the most beloved beverages of the Greeks. During the 2004 Summer Olympics with many international reporters covering the games, the drink has even gotten recognition overseas with the LA Times writing up an article [1] about one of the most popular drinks in Greece.
