Yellowknife (Administrative district)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Yellowknife Administration district, was an appointed district representing Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. The district was created by legislation in 1939. However, it was not until 1947 that a vacancy opened up on the Northwest Territories council, and John G. McNiven of Yellowknife was appointed.
The district itself included all of the District of Mackenzie, but essentially represented the entire Northwest Territories since no other member appointed to the council was from the territory at the time.
In 1951 the Administration district was split into three electoral districts Mackenzie North, Mackenzie South and Mackenzie West.
